About Apexi
A'PEXi (often written Apexi) is a Japanese tuning parts maker founded in 1992, according to A'PEXi USA. The company was launched by a team of engineers and mechanics and began by developing exhaust systems and engine upgrades. Today the brand is operated by Apex Co., Ltd., based in Toyoake, Aichi Prefecture, with a technical center in Hachioji, Tokyo, and a factory in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka.
A'PEXi's catalog spans exhaust, intake, electronics, suspension, cooling and engine parts. Two products made its name. The N1 muffler, with its signature angled tip, grew out of the company's involvement in Japan's N1 endurance racing. The Power FC was a full replacement ECU designed for specific engines, letting tuners swap out the factory computer completely instead of piggybacking on it.
Apexi and the JDM scene
A'PEXi is one of the names that defined the 1990s and 2000s tuning boom. Power FC units, AFC fuel controllers and N1 exhausts were staples on Silvias, Skylines, Supras and RX-7s, and in the US the brand's dyno-tested parts were regularly featured by Super Street. A'PEXi's racing division, "apr," entered Japanese GT racing in 1998 with a Toyota MR2. In drifting, A'PEXi's Altezza and then its FD3S RX-7, driven by Youichi Imamura, competed in the early D1 Grand Prix, and the company says the RX-7 won a series championship. A'PEXi also built a drag Integra that ran 8.84 seconds at 161 mph.
