HKS
HKS: The Pioneer of Japanese Performance Tuning
HKS Co., Ltd. is arguably the most recognized and influential name in the Japanese aftermarket performance industry globally. Established in 1973 near Mount Fuji by two engineers, Hiroyuki Hasegawa and Goichi Kitagawa, and backed by Sigma Automotive (hence H-K-S), the company’s original vision was simple: to design and build high-performance engine components and systems that major manufacturers would not.
A Legacy of Innovation
HKS is celebrated for its role as a pioneer, introducing a host of groundbreaking products that defined the JDM tuning culture:
-
Turbocharging: HKS built the world's first commercially available turbocharger kit for passenger cars in 1974, making turbo upgrades a core part of its business ever since.
-
Electronics: They were leaders in electronic control, developing the first commercially available Electronic Valve Controller (EVC) boost controller and the famous Turbo Timer, alongside sophisticated fuel management systems like the F-CON.
-
Total Balance Tuning: HKS specializes in a comprehensive approach, offering integrated systems that cover the entire vehicle: engine internals, full exhaust systems, coilovers (Hipermax), cooling components, and electronic management.
