About NGK

NGK is the spark plug and ignition brand of Niterra Co., Ltd., a Japanese company established in 1936 as Nippon Tokushu Tōgyō (Japan Special Ceramics) and based in Nagoya. For decades the company was known in English as NGK Spark Plug Co., Ltd.; in April 2023 it changed its English corporate name to Niterra, while NGK remains the brand on its ignition products.

Niterra's businesses include NGK ignition parts (spark plugs, glow plugs, ignition coils and leads), NTK vehicle electronics such as oxygen sensors and exhaust gas temperature sensors, and NTK technical ceramics. NGK is also active in motorsport, supplying the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 team, serving as the exclusive IndyCar spark plug supplier from 2007 to 2011, and supporting teams in MotoGP, the World Rally Championship and more.

As a Japanese ignition specialist, NGK is a natural first choice for many JDM owners. Tuners commonly step to a colder heat range when adding boost, and NGK's wide catalog of heat ranges and electrode designs makes it easy to match a plug to a build, from stock rebuilds to high-boost race engines.
