About TOYO

Toyo Tire Corporation is a Japanese tire manufacturer founded in 1945 and headquartered in Itami, Hyogo Prefecture. The company entered the US market in 1966 through Toyo Tire USA Corporation, and in 1999 it established Nitto Tire North America, which runs the sister Nitto brand.

Toyo's performance tires are sold under the Proxes name. The lineup ranges from ultra-high-performance street tires such as the Proxes Sport family to DOT-legal competition tires including the Proxes R888R, Proxes RR and Proxes R1R. The R888R has been used as a control tire in club racing, including the UK's BMW Z Cars series. Track-focused Proxes models such as the RA1, R888 and R1R were already part of the lineup by the mid-2000s.

TOYO and the JDM scene

Toyo has a long history in drifting. In 2007, Tanner Foust won the Formula Drift championship driving a Nissan 350Z on Toyo Proxes R1R tires, which Toyo described as its first Formula D title. Beyond drifting, Toyo's R888R and RR are popular choices for time attack, track days and autocross, where Japanese platforms like the Civic, Miata, S2000, 86 and Evo make up a big share of the grid.
