About DBA
DBA, short for Disc Brakes Australia, is a Sydney-based brake specialist that grew out of a family business. The "Disc Brakes" name was registered in 1963 by Oscar Joseph, and his son Phillip Joseph Sr. shaped the company over roughly four decades. Around 1980 he produced what is described as Australia's first aftermarket brake rotor, a custom casting for a 1967 Holden. DBA's head office, engineering and production remain in Sydney.
DBA stayed family-owned until 2018, when it was acquired by ASX-listed GUD Holdings (now Amotiv Limited). Today the range spans rotors, pads, calipers, hoses and fluids, with distribution centers in Australia, New Zealand and the USA and exports to more than 30 countries. The company holds ISO 9001:2015 accreditation and has won numerous Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association awards.
DBA and the JDM scene
DBA is known for performance rotor technology developed in-house, including its patented Kangaroo Paw ventilation design and T2/T3 slotted faces. Its 4000 Series rotors and two-piece 5000 Series rotors with aluminum hats are popular upgrades for sport compacts that see track days and time attack, where heat management matters more than looks. In January 2024 DBA became the exclusive brake partner of Motorsport Australia, supplying products and technical support from grassroots events to professional categories.
